Heated swimming sessions for kids with sickle cell

Heated swimming sessions for kids with sickle cell

Shantel Brand wishes her 5 year old son could take part in swimming activities with his big brother and twin sister, but he can’t, because he has sickle cell. The water temperature at the local leisure centres is too cold for his body to take.

Shantel has a plan, and is in the process of making it happen: she wants to offer weekly swimming sessions for children with sickle cell in a hydrotherapy pool heated to a safe 34 degrees. The sessions would take place in London.

Are you interested in your child taking part in these sessions? To register your interest, and ask more questions, please get in touch with Shantel at info@reliefcrechecare.co.uk

We at the Sickle Cell Society believe everyone with sickle cell has the right to participate in hobbies they wish to, and we applaud Shantel for taking the initiative in organising this non-profit venture.
