'MO and ME'

'MO and ME' is a cartoon book aimed at children with Sickle Cell Disorders. The pictures have been drawn by Melanie Wood, an amateur cartoonist, who is a midwife at a local hospital in Coventry. The book was launched on July 4th 2001, in Coventry to mark Awareness Day. As funding is limited at present, the book is only available to affected children, local to Coventry. If further funding were to become available, it would be possible to distribute the book nationally.

New Leaflets for Children and Young People.

Following a study of all the sickle cell centres in Great Britain asking the staff what leaflets are most needed, the response was there is an urgent need for leaflets for children and young people with sickle cell.

To make these leaflets really good and appropriate it is essential the ideas on content and design comes from you.

So, your help is needed. If you were given a leaflet on sickle cell what would you want it to say?

If you were making a leaflet on sickle cell for other young people like yourself what would you include?

What size, shape and colour would you want the leaflet to be?

Would you include cartoons and drawings?

What would you like to know about sickle cell?

I will be running focus groups with children and young people, but to make the leaflets really good I need lots of ideas and comments.

E-mail or send your ideas to Barbara Brewster, Sickle Cell Society, 54 Station Road, London, NW10 4UA
