Volunteers Wanted: South London Gives

South London Gives is a new Sickle Cell Society project aimed at increasing the number of people of black African and black Caribbean heritage who regularly give blood.

We are recruiting 15 Volunteer Community Advocates who will connect with individuals and communities in Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark to break down some of the barriers and myths that prevent people donating blood, signing them up to blood donation sessions near to where they live.

NHS Blood and Transplant urgently need to recruit a significant number of new black blood donors due to an increase in demand for specific types of blood to treat sickle cell patients.

All Community Advocate volunteers will receive:

  • Free and accredited training in Community Organising
  • Ongoing support from a volunteer manager and reimbursement of agreed volunteer expenses, and
  • The chance to make a difference to the lives of people with sickle cell disease.

Find out more about the role here and apply here.
