A ‘Local Hero’

A ‘Local Hero’

June is ‘heritage Month’ in the London Borough of Newham and they have launched an online exhibition to celebrate the diversity and strong community of Newham. The exhibition expands on a collection held within Newham archives as part of a project called ‘Local heroes’ from 15 years ago, that aimed to diversify the archive and represent different cultures within their collection.

Six Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people from Newham were selected and amongst them is retired sickle cell and thalassaemia specialist nurse counsellor Comfort Okolo who worked for many years at the NHS sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre. Comfort also volunteered with the Sickle Cell Society for their Children’s Holiday and Family Legacy DVD Outreach Project.

Congratulations to Comfort for being part of Newham’s history!
